Creation Consciousness: The Provision of God
Sept 10, 2017 -- October 8, 2017

Creation Consciousness: Scarcity and Abundance in the Desert
Exodus 16:1-18
Things seem bad for the Israelites while they are in the desert. Moses has dragged them out from slavery into the middle of nowhere, and nowhere seems like a death sentence. No food, no water, no structure. They complain loudly. And God hears. Then, God responds with manna and quail.
What does it mean for us to live in the paradox of scarcity and abundance?
PDF is an outline this week. Audio below.
Peace and grace, Pastor Seth

Creation Consciousness: Naming Things and the Name of God
Scripture: Exodus 2:23-25, 3:10-15, 4:10-17
We move all the way to Egypt this week and find out what God's name is with Moses. Naming things and people is of great importance in Scripture and the ancient world.
Some linguists say the root of all language is the act of naming.
How we use words, along with naming, therefore becomes exceedingly important in our relationship with God and others. Words are, after all, the fabric upon which all things were created.

Creation Consciousness: Jacob's Dream and the Ladder of Creation
Scripture: Genesis 27:1-4, 15-23; 28:10-17
Jacob's family is kind of a mess, and Jacob has inherited all kinds of behaviors that make him ... compromised. Even so, God chooses Jacob as the inheritor of Abraham's blessing. Jacob finds out about this in a dream, and in the dream a ladder comes down (or goes up) from Heaven. Jacob, dreams, and the Ladder of Creation all are used by God for one thing: reconciliation.

Creation Consciousness: Bound by Command, Unbound by Life
Scripture: Genesis 21:1-3, 22:1-14
Today, we explored perhaps the most difficult story in all of Scripture - the Binding of Isaac. How we deal, or don't, with trauma and suffering and loss in the world and our lives is one of the great questions. Isaac, not Abraham, becomes the Biblical image of what it means to be a survivor.
Sermon is in writing and in audio. Enjoy!

Creation Consciousness: Ordered Giving vs. Giving Orders
Scripture: Genesis 1:1-2:4a
We begin the Narrative Lectionary for 2017-2018 today. This year, we look at the Provision of God, the God who gives Life. I see this as a way to form our consciousness and awareness of God's presence with us, and our presence with others in a Godly way.
So today, we begin with a discussion about Creation Consciousness. How do we see the world from the perspective of how God formed all things in the very beginning?
I have attached a PDF of my notes above. Audio is working below.
