Prophetic Consciousness: The Promise of God
November 12 -- 26, 2017
November 26, 2017
"Prophetic Consciousness: Thriving in Exile"
Jeremiah 29: 1, 4-14
Exile from one's homeland is very difficult for most of us to imagine, but we might be surprised by our neighbors who are actually exiles, or are spiritually and emotionally dislocated from people they once considered their tribe. Jeremiah has a surprising bit of advice for people who are exiled and dislocated. You can listen below, and follow along with the mind-map above.

November 19, 2017 - Thanksgiving Sunday
"Prophetic Consciousness: Light in the Darkness"
Isaiah 9:1-7
Isaiah gives us another aspect of the Prophetic Consciousness - a more hopeful one after the hard words of Amos last week. This Sunday was also our traditional Puritan Thanksgiving service. I try to maintain some elements of from the Puritan tradition in our Thanksgiving service and talk through some of those throughout our worship, so I have placed both the entire service and just the sermon for your listening pleasure this week.
Have a safe, enjoyable, and grace-filled Thanksgiving this week!
Peace, Pastor Seth

"Prophetic Consciousness: An Ever Flowing Stream"
Amos 1:1-2; 5:14-15, 20-24
We have moved from Creation Consciousness to Call Consciousness and now we come to Prophetic Consciousness. The words of the prophets are sometimes words of promise, but are also sometimes words of excoriation (which is a very Puritan word meaning "to chastise, upbraid, or call to the right path"). Amos is a prophet of justice and righteousness, because he was surrounded by injustice and unrighteousness. As with all the prophets, the question is:
How does this apply to us today?
Hopefully, we answered at least part of that question today.

Peace and grace to you! Pastor Seth
